The Daily World was founded as the Aberdeen Weekly Bulletin on July 31, 1889. In 1908, it was sold to Werner Andrew Rupp, a political reporter and editorial writer, and John F. Gilbert, a cartoonist. The first edition of The Aberdeen Daily appeared January 18, 1909. When Gilbert left the newspaper a year later, Rupp became the sole proprietor, editor and publisher and was in control for the next 53 years. On March 2, 1969, the newspaper became The Daily World. The newspaper changed hands several times after that, and was purchased by the Stephens Media Group in 1993.
