The Daily News was founded in 1923 by lumber magnate (and founder of Longview itself) Robert A. Long. That same year, John McClelland, Sr. purchased the newspaper. in 1999, Howard Publications acquired the newspaper from McClelland's grandsons. Lee Enterprises acquired Howard Publications in 2002.
