The Stranger Cuts Staff, Suspends Print Publication
-- Responding to the ad revenue crash from COVID-19, the Seattle newspaper has laid off 18 employees (including managing editor Leilani Polk) and stopped print publishing. Both moves are said to be temporary. Stranger Editor Christopher Frizzelle wrote "We are determined not to let this virus and the incompetence of the Trump administration stop us." Donations Sought after Coronavirus Crushes The Stranger Revenue
-- The alternative newspaper in Seattle says "90% of our revenue -- advertising, ticketing fees, and our own events -- is directly tied to people getting together in groups. The coronavirus situation has virtually eliminated this income all at once." The paper posted the appeal for donations on March 11, 2020 and it appears at the top of every page of the website.
