The Capital Times was founded as an afternoon daily newspaper in 1917. In April 2008 the newspaper stopped publishing daily print editions. It continues to print two weekly tabloid editions.

The Capital Times produces a free web-based daily newspaper. There is also a free weekly news and opinion tabloid edition and an arts and entertainment section that are distributed with the Wisconsin State Journal.
