KMIR TV 6 first went on the air in October 1968. It was the first commercial television station for Palm Springs, California. Actor John Conte owned KMIR-TV before Journal Broadcast Group purchased the station in 1999. Mr. Conte also owned the El Mirador hotel in Palm Springs, giving the station the call letters K(MIR).

This TV station is owned by Journal Communications, Inc..
