The first issue of The Porterville Recorder was published on May 21, 1908. In 1909, John T. Goodrick Jr. and Leslie McAuliff acquired controlling interest. The newspaper changed hands several times over the years. In 1927, Homer W. Wood acquired The Recorder, and ran it until 1960, when Mr. and Mrs. Graham M. Dean acquired it from Wood. Freedom Newspapers acquired the paper in 1974.
