Owned by NBC Universal, KNSD first went on the air in November, 1965 as KAAR TV. The call letters KNSD stand for "NBC San Diego," which is how the station brands itself. KNSD is carried on channel 7 on cable TV systems in San Diego, although it broadcasts over-the-air on channel 39. The statewide all-news channel, NBC California Nonstop, can be seen on KNSD's digital sub-channel 39.2.
