It is the official newspaper for Hispanic public notices in San Francisco city and county. The paper is distributed throughout the Mission, Potrero Hill and Bernal Heights districts and in San Jose, San Mateo County and Alameda.
The newspaper was started in March 1991 as a student project in the Journalism Department at San Francisco State University by Marvin Ramirez, with the goal of bringing a new perspective to journalism in San Francisco's Latino Mission District.
