The Stockton Record began publication in 1895 as the Evening Record. It covers the Stockton, San Joaquin and the Mother Lode areas. In 1969, Speidel Newspapers, Inc. bought The Record and introduced a Sunday edition. On May 5, 2003, Dow Jones Local Media Group bought The Record and changed its brand to San Joaquin Media Group.
