Clarity Media Group, the parent company of the Washington Examiner and San Francisco Examiner newspapers, has bought the Weekly Standard from News Corporation, the Washington Examiner reported on June 17, 2009.

Washington Examiner editor Stephen G. Smith reacted to news of the acquisition, “I’m thrilled to be associated with The Weekly Standard. I know and admire Bill Kristol and Fred Barnes, and eagerly read their magazine every Sunday evening. I’m certain the new arrangement will benefit both Washington-based publications.”

The Washington Examiner has named J.P. Freire and David Freddoso as investigative writers. Freire was previously managing editor at The American Spectator, and Freddoso covered Congress for the National Review Online.

The DC Examiner's circulation numbers are grossly inflated and do not accurately reflect readership. They will not stop delivery despite numerous contacts, which seems to be their regular practice. My neighborhood is littered with unwanted papers. Advertisers should be aware that they're likely not getting what they are paying for if their rates are based on circulation numbers.
