Don Rogers was named the editor and publisher of the Vail Daily on April 3, 2009. Rogers has been associate publisher of the Vail Daily since August 2008.

Bob Brown, the president of Swift Communications, which owns the Vail Daily, made the announcement.
"I am delighted Don will be at the helm of Colorado Mountain News Media's largest newspaper," Brown said. "During the past several months, he has demonstrated excellent leadership skills at the Vail Daily and in the communities the newspaper serves. He complements his obvious talent as a writer and editor with excellent instincts as a salesman and business manager."

Rogers joined Colorado Mountain News Media in 1999 as editor of the Vail Daily. Before that, he spent 23 years working in reporting, editing and publishing at newspapers in California, Michigan, Illinois and New York.

He moved to Gardnerville, NV in February 2008 to be publisher of The Record Courier but returned to the Vail Daily nine months later.

There's newspaper war in Vail Colorado, Clyde Davis’ Free-daily blog reported on March 27, 2009:

"A battle between the two free dailies in the beautiful ski resort of Vail is getting downright ugly.

The Vail Daily, the town's 25-year-old chain-owned paper, has obtained a deal with the local Starbucks stores to keep the other paper out of those stores. The other paper, the Vail Mountaineer, fired back with a front page editorial slamming the deal, headlined "Corporate Greed."

The editorial played off of the idea that Starbucks is an out-of-town chain and the Vail Daily is owned by an out-of-town chain, Swift Newspapers of Reno, Nev. The man who sold the Vail Daily to Swift, however, is Jim Pavelich, who is the driving force behind the Mountaineer."
