Established in June 2008, the Vail Mountaineer ceased publication on June 7, 2011. The paper was published six days a week and distributed from East Vail to Gypsum in shops, restaurants, lodges, offices, and residential neighborhoods. When it shut down had a circulation of 10,000.
The newspaper's offices were located in the Riverwalk Center in Edwards, Colorado. Publisher Jim Pavelich formerly operated the Vail Daily.
