Saturday Evening Post Magazine

Saturday Evening Post is a USA magazine covering Books and Literature.

The Saturday Evening Post is the oldest magazine in the United States. The Post is known for its magazine covers that illustrate the lives and experiences of the American people, and for telling the story of American life through in-depth features, fiction, and art. It began as Benjamin Franklin’s Pennsylvania Gazette newspaper, first published in 1728, and became known as The Saturday Evening Post in 1821. In 1897, famed magazine publisher Cyrus H. K. Curtis purchased the magazine for one thousand dollars. Curtis also founded The Ladies Home Journal. George Horace Lorimer, who served as editor from 1899-1936, grew The Saturday Evening Post from 2,000 copies sold per year to over three million by the end of his tenure.

The growing popularity of television in the 1950’s posed a major challenge to the magazine, and in 1969 The Saturday Evening Post briefly ceased publication. It returned in 1971 with a new owner and is currently a publication of the Saturday Evening Post Society. It has a circulation of 350,000, according to the Audit Bureau of Circulation, and is published every other month.

This magazine is owned by The Saturday Evening Post Society.
