Mondo Times editors Boulder, Colorado USA | Posted at 5:45pm on Thursday, July 23rd, 2009 | Hart Energy Publishing has promoted E&P magazine Executive Editor Judy Maksoud to the position of editor, effective immediately. The appointment follows the resignation of E&P Editor-in-Chief and Editorial Director William J. "Bill" Pike, Ph.D. He will maintain ties to Hart, however, through his new role as chair of the E&P Editorial Advisory Board.
"We are pleased to have an editor of Judy's caliber already on staff and ready to take over the leadership of E&P," said E&P Group Publisher Russell Laas. "Her journalism background and industry expertise, along with her professionalism and work ethic, will serve Hart and E&P readers well as she moves the magazine forward in its role as a premier industry publication."
Maksoud joined Hart in 2007 as senior editor and became executive editor in March 2008. She has nine years of oil and gas journalism experience, including work in the seismic and drilling fluids sectors. She was the international editor for Offshore magazine for six years, during which she covered global exploration and production activities. Maksoud has covered the offshore sector for E&P since joining the staff. She holds bachelor's degrees in English and history and a master's degree in English.
"I was fortunate to work closely with Bill since I joined E&P and have benefitted immeasurably from his experience," Maksoud said. "The challenging times we are in as an industry open the door for opportunity, and I am looking forward to moving the magazine into new areas that will expand its presence and its usefulness to our readers."
After more than eight years at Hart, Dr. Pike has joined TMS, a subsidiary of NISD, as senior associate. As head of the new E&P Editorial Advisory Board, he will coordinate a team of oil and gas industry experts in support of all E&P initiatives, including the magazine and custom publications, the Web site and conferences.
