February 9, 2009: The New York Times reported that My Network TV is getting an overhaul:

"MyNetworkTV, a unit of the News Corporation, announced Monday that it would refashion itself, beginning in September, from a broadcast-network model to a “hybrid” service that would continue to supply programs to its affiliate stations.

The new “program service,” as the News Corporation is calling it, will retain the name but be transformed into a model closer to the television syndication business. That means that program suppliers will be allowed to sell as much as half the commercial time in the service.

My Network will cut its weekly hours of operation to 10 from 12, and will program Monday through Friday, dropping Saturday. Two nights of programs remain undecided.

The service announced that it had bought rights to repeats of the NBC Universal drama “Law & Order: Criminal Intent,” and would fill two hours with that show. The Thursday movie night will be retained.

My Network will still be the home of the program that is its most popular offering, “SmackDown,” the Friday night program from World Wrestling Entertainment. That show has been attracting more young men than any other show on any network on Friday nights."

On January 20, 2009, Media Life magazine reported that My Network TV and ION are growing smartly:

"The big broadcast networks are hurting, everyone knows that. But there are two networks that are doing well, MyNetworkTV and ION, with ratings that are trending up.

For the season through Jan. 11, MNT is up 50 percent over the same time last year in the 18-49 demographic, to a 0.6 rating, which places it in the top 10 of cable and broadcast networks.

ION is still tiny, just a third the size of MNT with a total audience of 610,000, but it is up 9 percent, and it's up 19 percent in adults 18-49, to 190,000.

Last year neither MNT nor ION attracted much attention from media buyers attending the upfront market, where the bulk of network ad inventory is auctioned off."
