Samantha Brown Celebrates 10 Year Anniversary on Travel Channel

New York (February 3, 2010) -- Travel Channel host Samantha Brown will celebrate her 10th Anniversary on the network, and a decade of inspiring audiences to look past the standard travel guides. To honor this milestone, the network will broadcast four original hour-long specials with Samantha.

"The past ten years has been an incredible journey -- literally and figuratively," said Samantha Brown, Travel Channel host. "Meeting and interacting with people around the country and around the world has been both a life-altering and humbling experience. I'm excited to uncover the adventures that lie ahead for me in the next decade."

"For more than 10 years, Samantha Brown has been entertaining our viewers with her engaging personality, infectious spirit, and quirky humor," said Jonathan Sichel, acting general manager, Travel Channel. "Through her many adventures, Sam has become one of Travel Channel's most popular and recognized talent, and a key personality that drives our business and brand. Looking ahead, we are excited about building Sam's presence on Travel Channel."

Traveling over 230 days a year, Samantha has an infinite amount of stories from her journeys -- some humorous, some bizarre, but all entertaining. As she enters her second decade with the network, she shares her favorite moments and gives fans an up-close and personal look at the past ten years on Travel Channel.

Scripps Networks Interactive Outbids News Corp. for Travel Channel

Bloomberg.com reported on November 5, 2009:

"Scripps Networks will pay $181 million to get 65 percent of the channel through a joint venture with Cox Communications, Inc., parent owner of the Travel Channel. Cox will keep the remaining stake, the companies said today in a statement. Cox will contribute the channel and their partnership will carry $696 million in net debt.

The channel’s valuation topped the $600 million to $700 million that Hale Holden, a Barclays Capital Inc. credit analyst in New York, estimated Travel Channel Media was worth. Travel Channel Media includes the cable channel and the Web site travelchannel.com.

The valuation is “in the range for what we thought Travel was worth,” Cox Chief Financial Officer Mark Bowser said in an interview. “The two areas where we would see the largest opportunity would be international and would be digital.”

The Travel Channel is for sale, the New York Times reported on October 30, 2009:

"Cox Communications is expected to command close to a billion dollars for the Travel Channel, people close to the bidding war for the channel said on Thursday.

The company is entertaining bids from a number of media companies, including the News Corporation and Scripps Networks, three people with knowledge of the auction said. The people requested anonymity because they were not authorized by their employers to discuss the confidential process. At least one of the offers exceeds $900 million, they said."
