Movin' on up at Martha Stewart Living -- in April 2009 the magazine hired Ruth Altchek, former editorial projects director at Domino, as senior editor. MSL has also promoted Miranda Van Gelder to deputy editor and Laura Regensdorf to associate editor.

Martha Stewart was paid a total of $5.4 million in 2008, according to a story in WWD magazine on April 1, 2009:

"With a stock price hovering around $2.50 a share — a 67 percent decline from a year ago — shareholders of Martha Stewart Living Omnimedia Inc. may be more interested than usual in the company’s upcoming annual meeting on May 13. In a filing with the Securities and Exchange Commission that outlines what will be discussed, the media company revealed founder Martha Stewart received overall compensation in 2008 that by far surpassed what she earned the previous year: $5.4 million, compared with $2.06 million in 2007."

In March 2009, Ariana Phillips was promoted to recipes editor at Martha Stewart Living magazine. Phillips was previously research editor at the magazine.

March 3, 2009: Mediaweek magazine writer Lucia Moses reported that Martha Stewart Living will broaden its editorial focus, adding beauty, travel and fashion editorial content:

"Martha Stewart Living’s association with its eponymous founder, 360-degree marketing programs and editorial consistency have made it a favorite of marketers.

But now, facing sharp ad page declines, Living is broadening that message to include beauty, travel and fashion editorial content as it tries to boost its appeal with advertisers in those categories.

With the April issue, Living will introduce a health and beauty column called Apothecary and a fashion department. The magazine also will begin running an occasional personal travel column by Martha Stewart. Her first column, in the April issue, will report on her recent visit to Prague."
