Minwax(R) and This Old House(R) Magazine Announce Winners of 'From Attic to Awesome' Furniture Makeover Contest

"UPPER SADDLE RIVER, N.J., December 29, 2009 -- The contest invited entrants to submit a photo and background information on a furniture piece in need of a transformation. After poring over more than 230 entries, the judging team has named Mark Cowart of Indianola, MS as the grand prize winner. Cowart's compelling entry highlights a classic heirloom "secretary," once owned by his grandfather, and was the only piece of furniture to survive a 1927 house fire.

Two first prize winners, Carol McBryde of Bryan, TX, and Kathleen Clute of Saratoga Springs, NY, have each won a professional makeover for their respective furniture piece. Clute entered her husband's prized carpenter's chest, hand-built by his grandfather, and McBryde submitted a well-worn roll top desk that once belonged to the Texas State Treasury Secretary. A complete list of the winners and images of the winning furniture pieces, both "before" and "after" the makeovers, can be found on Minwax.com."
