In a wide-ranging interview, she spoke exclusively to AARP The Magazine about the night she left her dying sister's bedside to face her own health crisis in a dramatic race against the clock for an organ transplant.
Gracing the cover of the November/December 2009 issue of AARP The Magazine, the 59-year-old Grammy Award-winning singer and daughter of Nat King Cole, candidly opens up about the grief she felt upon learning her sister Cookie had passed away during her own life-saving surgery, the struggles of dealing with her illness and dialysis treatments while performing on the road, how faith has helped her heal, and finding new purpose with a second chance at life.

Eric Kallgren Boulder Colorado USA | Posted at 3:21pm on Wednesday, May 20th, 2009 | AARP The Magazine is by far the largest circulation magazine published in the United States, with about 24 million copies. Reader's Digest is a distant second with a circulation of 8.6 million.
One reason that the AARP magazine has such high circulation is that it is delivered to members of AARP as part of their membership in the association.
Magazines are also measured using "readership," which is an estimate of how many people read each copy of a magazine. On that measure, according to readership data from Mediamark Research Inc.’s spring 2009 report, People magazine is on top with 43.6 million adult readers.
Better Homes & Gardens is number two in readership with 39 million, and AARP The Magazine follows with 35.6 million readers.
