Mondo Times editors Boulder, Colorado USA | Posted at 4:51pm on Thursday, January 22nd, 2009 | On January 21, 2009, Hearst Corporation announced that it will shut down Teen magazine and its Web site, teenmag.com. A spokeswoman said the winter 2008 issues will be the last. The magazine did not take subscriptions and was a newsstand-only publication, with 200,000 copies distributed each quarter.
Hearst bought Teen along with Seventeen magazine from Primedia in 2003. A Hearst spokesperson said the company would continue to publish Teen’s annual Prom issue and that Teen magazine’s editor, Jane Fort, would be kept on to oversee it.
Teen is the latest teen magazine to fold in recent years, following Hachette Filipacchi Media’s Elle Girl, Time Inc.’s Teen People and Hearst’s CosmoGirl!, which was closed with the December issue.
