Sundance Channel is a USA TV network covering Movies and Hollywood. Under the creative direction of Robert Redford, Sundance Channel offers audiences a diverse selection of films, documentaries, and original programs, all commercial free. Sundance Channel operates independently of the non-profit Sundance Institute and the Sundance Film Festival, but shares the overall Sundance mission of encouraging artistic freedom of expression. Launched in 1996, Sundance Channel is subsidiary of Rainbow Media Holdings LLC, which is owned by Cablevision. This TV network is owned by CableVision Systems Corporation. The web site is presented in the English language.

Eric Kallgren Boulder, Colorado USA | Posted at 2:52pm on Tuesday, May 12th, 2009 | In June 2008, the Rainbow Media subsidiary of Cablevision Systems Corporation purchased the Sundance Channel for $496 million from Showtime Networks (part of CBS Corporation), Universal Studios (part of NBC Universal) and Robert Redford.
Redford had acted as the creative director of the network and the name of the channel came from Redford's character in Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid.
The Sundance Channel operated independently of Redford's non-profit Sundance Institute and the Sundance Film Festival.
