National Enquirer

National Enquirer is a USA newspaper covering People & Gossip.

The National Enquirer covers stars and famous personalities plus human interest stories and medical breakthroughs. David Pecker, President of American Media, said that, "In the tabloid business, you pay for sources. But we have two former FBI agents on staff, and no source gets a check for $10,000, or even $1, without getting polygraphed. We also get three independent sources for all of our (National Enquirer and Star) stories. The New York Times runs one-source stories."

It is one of the worst American media outlets, according to Mondo Times members.

This newspaper is owned by American Media, Inc.

The web site is presented in the English language.

The National Enquirer pays cash for information, according to Michael Antonello, general counsel of American Media, the company that publishes the newspaper. He was quoted by Richard Perez-Pena in the New York Times article "Between Journalists and Ill-Gotten Information, a Shield of Distance" published on July 12, 2009:

“We pay for information,” he said, but “we have never, to my knowledge, induced someone to violate the law.”

When asked if his company ever paid for intercepted phone calls, voice messages or phone records, he said, “I really don’t know if I want to comment on that.”

He insisted that there was no ethical or practical difference between such payments and the practice of some television programs to pay what they call licensing fees for photos and video. He argued that even someone with an ax to grind, who leaks information to a newspaper and receives no direct compensation, is being paid in a way.

“Everyone pays,” he said. “We pay cash.”
