National Enquirer
National Enquirer is a USA newspaper covering People & Gossip.
The National Enquirer covers stars and famous personalities plus human interest stories and medical breakthroughs. David Pecker, President of American Media, said that, "In the tabloid business, you pay for sources. But we have two former FBI agents on staff, and no source gets a check for $10,000, or even $1, without getting polygraphed. We also get three independent sources for all of our (National Enquirer and Star) stories. The New York Times runs one-source stories."
It is one of the worst American media outlets, according to Mondo Times members.
This newspaper is owned by American Media, Inc.
The web site is presented in the English language.

Mondo Times editors Boulder Colorado USA | Posted at 10:07am on Friday, February 5th, 2010 | February 4, 2010 -- Gawker's John Cook says "there's no good reason why the National Enquirer shouldn't win a Pulitzer Prize" for breaking the John Edwards sex scandal story:
"There's no question that the Enquirer humiliated the institutional political press with its revelations about Edwards' infidelity, Rielle Hunter's pregnancy, the potentially illegal use of campaign cash for hush money, and the existence of a federal grand jury investigation into the matter. The Enquirer may traffic in "tabloid trash," but the facts of the Edwards story are squarely and profoundly in-bounds when it comes to the sort of newsgathering that we expect from America's vaunted political press corps, and they didn't do it. While the Enquirer may have blown the Anderson Cooper Haitian baby story, the exposure of Edwards' pathological lies and frantic corruption is precisely the sort of journalistic behavior that the Pulitzer Prizes were designed to encourage."

Mondo Times editors Boulder Colorado USA | Posted at 3:31pm on Friday, January 22nd, 2010 | Enquirer to Enter Edwards Scoop for Pulitzer
The Washington Post reported on January 22, 2010:
"Don't laugh.
"It's clear we should be a contender for this," Barry Levine said by phone Thursday, hours after the former presidential candidate admitted what the paper had been reporting all along: that he is the father of Rielle Hunter's baby. "The National Enquirer, a supermarket tabloid, was able to publish this reporting."
While the staff never doubted its reports that Edwards had fathered a daughter with his former campaign videographer, Levine said, "there is vindication, finally. Mr. Edwards kept the story alive much longer than it needed to be kept alive with his denials. He has only himself to blame."
While the Enquirer stories may or may not be prize-winning material -- the paper's most significant disclosures came in 2007 and 2008, and this year's Pulitzers will honor material published in 2009 -- there is no question that the tabloid scooped the rest of the media world."

Mondo Times editors Boulder Colorado USA | Posted at 10:14am on Tuesday, January 12th, 2010 | Should the National Enquirer Get a Pulitzer for Breaking the John Edwards Scandal?
Politics Daily reported on January 9, 2010:
"The National Enquirer is a supermarket tabloid, but the time has come for the media elite to admit that it has an excellent investigative reporting team, which broke the biggest political scandal of 2009, the John Edwards affair.
While its own editor concedes that the paper would never be given a Pulitzer Prize -- the jury is dominated by the newspaper establishment -- I believe the time has come for us to recognize the Enquirer's political investigative reporting."
