The Star has reduced its rate base, MinOnline reported on April 27, 2009:
"American Media Inc.'s Dave Leckey Has A Reduced-Rate-Base 'Star.'
The executive vp/consumer marketing, who reunited with AMI president (since April 1999) David Pecker in 2006 after working for him at Hachette Filipacchi Media U.S. during the 1990s, engineered the reduced rate bases of Men's Fitness (700,000 to 600,000), Natural Health (350,000 to 300,000), and, the most talked about, Star's 1.25 million to 1.1 million cut that took effect with the April 6 issue as AMI began fiscal 2010 (ends March 31, 2010). "When the decision was made last fall, we foresaw a very weak economy and a subscription-driven rate base could not sustain the advertising," says Leckey "So we increased Star's basic annual sub price by 20% to $76, and, short-term, we dropped public-place distribution.""
