Craigslist was started in 1995 by Craig Newmark as an email list of events in San Francisco. It was incorporated as a for-profit business in 1999. The site uses a ".org" domain to signal its relatively noncommercial nature. Craigslist has been a major factor in the decline of the newspaper business, as people have turned to free Craigslist classified advertising rather than paying for newspaper classifieds. With over 20 billion page views per month, Craigslist is one of the highest traffic sites on the Internet. The web site is presented in the English language.
