In this year's citation, the American Society of Magazine Editors wrote: "Jonathan Dorn, editor-in-chief; Anthony Cerretani, online editor.
Few magazines embrace the potential of the web as aggressively and creatively as Backpacker.com. Simple navigation and intuitive design make it easy to find hikes with GPS waypoints, commentary, photos and maps; videos that inform and entertain; and exhaustive gear reviews written by expert outdoorsmen."

Dennis Lewon was promoted to executive editor of Backpacker.
