Patriot-News Moving Out Of Harrisburg After 150 Years
-- The Central Penn Business Journal reported on December 29, 2009:
"The Patriot-News will consolidate its editorial and business departments into 45,000 square feet of leased space on the third floor of what is known as the IBM building at 2020 Technology Parkway, Hamden Township, Cumberland County.
The newspaper had been confronting the possibility of millions of dollars in improvements to its building, which was built in the early 1950s, Kirkpatrick said of a main reason it is leaving. The move also will help create efficiencies because the company's departments interact more since it added magazines, special inserts and technology functions, and it will help having office workers on the same floor, he said. The company also no longer needs as much space, he said, after it offered two rounds of buyouts to employees, last year and this year.
"Things we used to do by hand, separately, we now do by technology," Kirkpatrick said. "People have left and we didn't replace them. We are not separate (departmental) entities like we used to be."
