-- April 8, 2010: Turner Classic Movies (TCM) will stage the first-ever TCM Classic Film Festival Thursday, April 22 - Sunday, April 25, in the heart of Hollywood. The event will be packed with more than 50 screenings, complete with special introductions, guest appearances, panel discussions and more.
Slated to attend the festival and talk about their work are Mel Brooks, Jerry Lewis, Eva Marie Saint, Tony Curtis, Jon Voight, Jean-Paul Belmondo, Martin Landau, Anjelica Huston, Danny Huston, Buck Henry, Eli Wallach, Peter Bogdanovich, Stanley Donen, to name a few. Also scheduled to attend are the oldest living Best Actress and Best Actor Oscar winners, Luise Rainer and Ernest Borgnine.
TCM's Robert Osborne will be the official host of the festival. Screenings will be held at Grauman's Chinese Theatre, Mann's Chinese 6 and the Egyptian Theatre. The Hollywood Roosevelt Hotel, the site of the first Oscar ceremony, is the official hotel for the festival.
The festival will open with the world premiere of a stunning new restoration of A Star is Born (1954) and will close with a restoration of Metropolis (1927), featuring previously lost footage. Other festival highlights include a 50th anniversary screening of Jean-Luc Godard's Breathless (1959), introduced by Jean-Paul Belmondo, and The Producers (1968), whose creator, Mel Brooks, will receive a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.
Special film collections include The Hustons: A Hollywood Dynasty, a celebration of the Huston family; Vanity Fair's Tales of Hollywood, screenings combined with discussions with the people who made them; Film Foundation Presentations, a collection of restored films; and Hollywood on Hollywood, a slate of movies about Hollywood itself.
