MLB.com Alum Named Chief Digital Officer of Chicago Reader Parent Company, the newspaper reported on May 26, 2010:
"CL Inc. (aka Creative Loafing) has named Alex Kam its chief digital officer, an enormously important position in the chain of six alternative newsweeklies that includes the Reader. Kam's most recent job has been vice president of digital media for ALM / Incisive Media North America (publisher of The American Lawyer and other journals), and earlier he was director of financial planning and analysis at HBO and general manager of new media for Major League Baseball, whose elaborate online operation is exceptionally slick and impressive.
"If there is one constant in my career," says Kam in a note to CL employees, it's "that I have worked with well-established brands . . . in the media and entertainment world and helped transform them into brands that have continued relevance and value to their audiences. It's not about building something and they will come. It's about understanding what users want and bringing them to you. . . . Digital allows you to do this in many different ways. . . . But it's driven first and foremost by content."
If he's for content, I'm content. His head is screwed on straight. As impressive as MLB.com is, it's ultimately about the baseball."
