BPA Puts Food Manufacturing Magazine, Other ABM Titles, on ‘Probation’ Over Audit

"Circulation auditing organization BPA Worldwide has placed Advantage Business Media’s
CED magazine on probation for improper controlled circulation interviews done on its behalf by a third party. The BPA said in an announcement this afternoon that the outsourced tele-service presented some recorded circulation interviews that had not been completed by the claimed respondent. As a result the BPA has adjusted the total qualified circulation count for the book by 5.6% or 1,266 copies. Other adjustments are being made to additional categories for the publication regarding direct requests. BPA says the probation for the infraction, which occurred in 2009, remains in place until the successful completion of the December 2010 audit. CED serves the broadband industry.

For its part Advantage issued a statement by CEO Richard Reiff stating, “Advantage Business Media cooperated fully with the BPA’s investigation into the vendor.” He went on to claim that despite the adjustments, the investigation showed that the magazine’s circulation files “were largely accurate and most of the subscribers the vendor solicited were genuine.”
