Marie Claire Writer "Grossed Out" By Obesity
-- Maura Kelly, a freelance writer for Marie Claire magazine, got a lesson in both sanctimony and bigotry very soon after writing the opinion piece "Should "Fatties" Get a Room (Even on TV?)," published by Marie Claire magazine on October 25, 2010.
Referring to the CBS Television Network sitcom Mike & Molly, Kelly wrote:
"So anyway, yes, I think I'd be grossed out if I had to watch two characters with rolls and rolls of fat kissing each other ... because I'd be grossed out if I had to watch them doing anything. To be brutally honest, even in real life, I find it aesthetically displeasing to watch a very, very fat person simply walk across a room — just like I'd find it distressing if I saw a very drunk person stumbling across a bar or a heroine addict slumping in a chair."
In an "update" to the post, Kelly backpedaled by characterizing herself as a victim of anorexia.
