Osama bin Laden's Luxury Hideaway
-- The day after the announcement that Osama bin Laden had been killed, The Sun newspaper in London reported on his hideout in the city of Abbottabad, Pakistan - 62 miles north-east of Islamabad, the capital of Pakistan.
The story of bin Laden's "opulent existence," from May 2, 2011:
"It is claimed the residence - valued at around £600,000 - was built five years ago for the purpose of housing the man who masterminded the September 11 atrocities.
Officials say it was surrounded by an 18-foot wall topped with barbed wire and was accessible via two security gates.
Rather than leave out their refuse bins like other residents, Bin Laden's clan would burn their rubbish to avoid contact with people on the outside.
The mansion-sized abode is located in an affluent neighbourhood in a city of about 100,000 people that's well-travelled by tourists, basking in a beautiful climate and boasting a number of plush restaurants."
On the web page from The Sun containing the story, there is a video apparently showing a bloody scene inside the bin Laden compound. Directly below the video is an ad for a hotel and spa in Santa Fe, New Mexico.
