CBS Philadelphia Launching Digital Newsstands
-- Mediaweek reported on November 24, 2009:
"In a sign of what’s to come in CBS’ local markets, CBS TV and radio stations in Philadelphia announced that its two stations and five radio units have teamed with Center City Direct to launch a street-level digital news network at 39 newsstands.
Operated by Center City Direct, each digital newsstand sports a high definition TV screen and a 24-hour news ticker, airing content from multiple sources featuring news, weather and sports updates and tourist information about Philadelphia. Plans are to expand the network to 120 digital newsstands.
“Providing a street-level news service is another way to provide the viewer with the news and information they need wherever they are and whenever they need it," said Jon Hitchcock, president and general manager of the CBS duopoly.
"Ultimately, we want CBS to be the news source locally.”
