Medical Profession Dominates High-Paying Jobs in Buffalo

-- What 537 Different Jobs Pay, according to a December 1, 2009 article in Business First of Buffalo:

"There aren’t many surgeons in the Buffalo area -- about 100 or so, based on federal estimates -- but they earn very nice salaries, indeed.

The average annual pay for a local surgeon is $216,210, according to the latest figures from the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics. That’s the highest salary for any of the 537 occupations that BLS tracks in the two-county Buffalo metro.

The medical profession dominates the list, as you might expect. General internists are second with an average local salary of $189,380. The six best-paying jobs, in fact, are all in the field of health care.

Chief executives buck the medical trend. They rank seventh locally with average annual pay of $152,900."
