Settlement Reached Over Use Of St. Louis Globe-Democrat Name
-- The St. Louis Post-Dispatch reported on December 14, 2009:
"The issue of who owns the rights to the St. Louis Globe-Democrat name has been resolved and both parties are going to use the newspaper trademark, with an online edition appearing daily and a print edition that is published six times a year.
The two versions will be independently published.
Steve DeBellis, who has been using the Globe-Democrat name to publish a historical newspaper since 1995, when he discovered it had been abandoned, said today that he is happy with the settlement that has been reached with the online operators of the St. Louis Globe-Democrat.
Details of the agreement were not disclosed but DeBellis said he has agreed not to pursue a trademark infringement lawsuit against Dan Rositano and the website, which launched last week.
The original St. Louis Globe-Democrat stopped publishing on Oct. 29, 1986, after a daily run of 134 years.
Rositano said he plans to have the online version of the newspaper reflect the views of the old Globe-Democrat."
