The owners of GQ magazine don't want Russians to read a story about the government of Russia, NPR reported on September 4, 2009. The story by David Folkenflik also notes how the Russian government manipulates and intimidates the media:

"Conde Nast owns Vanity Fair and GQ as well as other publications, including Russian versions of GQ, Glamour, Tatler and Vogue. On July 23, Jerry S. Birenz, one of the company's top lawyers, sent an e-mail memo to more than a dozen corporate executives and GQ editors.

"Conde Nast management has decided that the September issue of U.S. GQ magazine containing Scott Anderson's article 'Vladimir Putin's Dark Rise to Power' should not be distributed in Russia," Birenz wrote.

He ordered that the article could not be posted to the magazine's Web site. No copies of the American edition of the magazine could be sent to Russia or shown in any country to Russian government officials, journalists or advertisers. Additionally, the piece could not be published in other Conde Nast magazines abroad, nor publicized in any way."

GQ magazine demonstrates its desperation with a "humor" piece in the October 2009 issue titled "America's 25 Douchiest Colleges." It begins:

"GQ’s first-ever guide to our nation’s Ivoriest Towers of douchery.

The question isn't whether you're a douche bag when you go to college. We were all kind of douche bags when we went to college, if we're going to be honest about it."

The "top 5" according to GQ:
1. Brown University
2. Duke University
3. Princeton University
4. Harvard University
5. Deep Springs College

GQ magazine is going to China, WWD magazine reported on July 9, 2009:

"GQ is the latest Condé Nast title to expand into China. Jonathan Newhouse, chairman of Condé Nast International, said in a statement Wednesday the monthly magazine will begin publishing in October. It will be produced by Condé Nast under a copyright cooperation agreement with the China News Service.

GQ is the fourth Condé Nast title to appear in the region after Vogue, Self and Modern Bride."

GQ magazine won a National Magazine Award (nicknamed an Ellie) for photography in April 2009.

In this year's citation, the American Society of Magazine Editors wrote: "Jim Nelson, editor-in-chief; Fred Woodward, design director; Jim Moore, creative director; Anton Ioukhnovets, art director; Dora Somosi, director of photography, for August, November, December issues.

Photography at its best is the visual representation of the voice of the magazine. Each photograph in GQ is obviously the result of an intelligent and deliberate plan. GQ captures the essence of a person, an idea and even a product within the broad range of celebrity portraiture, fashion, reportage, style and humor. This is GQ’s first Ellie for Photography."

On December 14, 2008, Agence France Press reported what is probably the biggest news GQ magazine will ever break:

"US actress Jennifer Aniston, who starred in "Friends" and other comedies, appears naked in a series of photographs that are published on the cover and inside pages of the latest issue of GQ magazine.

The 40-year-old Hollywood actress tells the magazine that she feels more comfortable today than she did in her twenties or early thirties.

"I'm healthier," Aniston is quoted as saying. "I'm more at peace in my mind and with my body."

The actress says the continues to maintain contact with her ex-husband, actor Brad Pitt, who left her for actress Angelina Jolie."
