Mondo Times:
Worldwide Mass Media Gateway Debuts
Mondo Times, a web site devoted to mass media around the world, has just launched at www.mondotimes.com. This new service provides fast and efficient access to over 13,000 media outlets available online, organized by location and topic.
While Mondo Times is a practical tool for worldwide media access, it's much more than just a list of links. Mondo Times also offers popularity rankings, content quality ratings and media reviews, all based on the input of site users.
The Internet offers a huge choice of mass media. But without a convenient way to reach all these services, they might as well not exist. "There's a real need for a focused directory service to help Internet users make sense of it all, because the general purpose search engines just aren't up to the task" said Eric Kallgren, the creator and lead developer of Mondo Times.
"The challenge is to put all the world media at people's fingertips. Mondo Times makes media outlets anywhere in the world easy to find, but also gives users a valuable perspective about their popularity, content quality, ownership and political orientation," Kallgren added.
Mondo Times is a directory of all kinds of mass media -- newspapers, magazines, radio, TV and news agencies -- that have a web site. On the Internet, the old distinctions between print and electronic media are increasingly blurred. For example, newspapers stream video and TV networks present in-depth text analysis. So there's great value in covering all the media in one place. And the Mondo Times ranges far beyond news coverage, incorporating entertainment, recreation, business, science and social topics.
Mondo Times covers media outlets in 211 countries, making it easy to find local information anywhere around the world. If you want to keep track of world events, you can quickly survey the news from Tokyo, Berlin, London and other media centers. If you're planning a trip to Singapore, extensive news, business and entertainment coverage is ready and waiting.
Major media, defined as those with national distribution or influence, are also organized by topic for fast access. A business person can review all the media covering aviation, investing, telecommunications or any of over 40 other industry groups. When you're looking for entertainment, access to music, sports, fashion and more are just a few clicks away. Coverage of social issues such as education, law and religion is equally extensive.
Kallgren created GoSki.com in 1995, which became one of the web's most popular and highly regarded sports web sites despite an annual marketing budget of about fifty dollars. He sold GoSki in 1999 and last year began work on MondoTimes.com. Kallgren is also the CEO of Mondo Code LLC, a web production and consulting company based in Boulder, Colorado USA.
