Tony Stewart, two-time Nextel Cup racing champion and one of the top three NASCAR drivers. In the article "Reasons abound for why NASCAR is running flat" by Rick Minter, distributed by the Cox News Service and published on May 6, 2007, Minter writes that Stewart said NASCAR races are rigged, and that Stewart simply said what most race fans have thought for years.
Minter wrote that Stewart "compared NASCAR racing to pro wrestling and said officials hadn't fairly run a race all year." Commenting on the race at Talladega which was won by Jeff Gordon, Minter added that "rowdy fans make the sport look tired: Alabama fans gave NASCAR backers everywhere a black eye when they pelted Jeff Gordon's car with beer cans after he surpassed the late Dale Earnhardt on the career victory list."
Minter added that a number of racing teams had cheated during qualifying races at Daytona and were fined by NASCAR.
