Retired Penn State professor Charles Yesalis, an expert on performance-enhancing drugs.
On September 23, 2006, Floyd Landis, the 30 year-old American who won the 2006 Tour de France, was formally charged with using performance-enhancing drugs during the race. Landis tested positive for synthetic testosterone at the Tour in July. If found guilty, he could be suspended from cycling for two years and stripped of his title. He would be the first winner in the Tour's 103-year history to be disqualified because of a doping offense. In that event, runner-up Oscar Pereiro of Spain would be named the champion.
