Chicago Tribune

The Chicago Tribune is a daily newspaper in Chicago, Illinois, USA covering local news, sports, business, politics and community events.

The newspaper is published seven days a week.

It is one of the best American media outlets, according to Mondo Times members.

Founded in 1847, the Chicago Tribune is the principal daily newspaper in the city of Chicago and much of the midwestern United States, and one of the largest daily newspapers in the nation. Often called "The Trib," it was the starting point of the Tribune Company which in 2014, after years of mismanagement, was split into two independent businesses -- Tribune Publishing Company to publish newspapers and Tribune Media Company to operate local TV stations.

On May 21, 2021, Tribune Publishing Company shareholders approved the sale of the company to hedge fund Alden Global Capital for $633 million. The owner of MediaNews Group, Alden is a major player in American newspaper publishing and invests mainly in distressed financial assets.

The Chicago Tribune is still remembered for publishing the wrong headline and story -- "Dewey Defeats Truman" -- about the 1948 presidential election. Democrat Harry S. Truman was the underdog in the race but won the election, and was delighted to hold up a copy of the paper for one of the most famous photos in American political history. The same front page included made-up results for the election as the polls had not yet closed.

Circulation estimate: 238,000

The Chicago Tribune is one of the highest circulation newspapers in the USA.

This newspaper is owned by Tribune Publishing Company.
