The Hays Daily News (HD News) covers local news, weather and views in Hays, Kansas. On December 1, 2016, GateHouse Media bought the paper as part of its acquisition of Harris Enterprises Inc. in Hutchinson, Kansas for $20 million. On November 19, 2019, the paper became part of Gannett Company when the owner of GateHouse Media bought Gannett and merged it with GateHouse under the Gannett name.
In September 2021, the paper was one of 20 newspapers in the midwest acquired by CherryRoad Media from Gannett Company. CherryRoad Media is a division of CherryRoad Technologies, an information technology company based in New Jersey that began buying newspapers in late 2020.

Nick Schwien Promoted to Managing Editor
-- In January 2014, Nick Schwien was promoted to managing editor of the Hays Daily News. He has been with the Daily News for 16 years, and most recently served as the chief copy editor. Schwien replaced Rick Fields who resigned in December 2013.
