The Times traces its roots to the first Natchitoches Times, which was published in 1864 by Mr. L. Duplex and only stayed in business for eight years. The current lineage of the Natchitoches Times was begun in 1903 by Charles M. Cunningham. The newspaper remained in the Cunningham family until the late 1950s. At the time it was being managed by a veteran newswoman, Mrs. Evelena Cunningham. Natchitoches was home to a second newspaper, The Enterprise. The Enterprise was the rebirth of the name that was used in 1888 by H. P. Breazeale. At the time of Ms. Evelena Cunningham's death, her son, Charles, bought the newspaper from the estate. Cunningham also had purchased the old Natchitoches Enterprise in January of 1965 from Kenneth Walker. Cunningham merged the newspaper staffs under the name, The Natchitoches Times, and operated them until October of 1967. Current owner and publisher Lovan Thomas purchased the newspaper from Cunningham in 1967.
