The Swampscott Reporter covers local news in Swampscott and the surrounding communities of Essex County in northeastern Massachusetts. It was part of the now-defunct North Shore Weeklies Inc. based in Ipswich, Massachusetts. NSW was a newspaper publisher on Massachusetts' North Shore which was acquired by Fidelity Investments and incorporated into Fidelity's Community Newspaper Company, which through acquisitions became Massachusetts' largest weekly newspaper publisher. In 2001, Fidelity sold CNC to Herald Media, the publisher of the Boston Herald.
In 2006, Herald Media sold CNC to GateHouse Media. On November 19, 2019, the paper became part of Gannett Company when the owner of GateHouse Media bought Gannett and merged the two companies under the Gannett name.
