The Hustler was established in 1888 and is the oldest continuously published newspaper in Nashville. It is the student-run newspaper at Vanderbilt University, named for shipping and rail magnate "Commodore" Cornelius Vanderbilt. The newspaper's name references a nickname for the Commodore, who was known for his cutthroat business practices that essentially "hustled" people out of their money.
