Easy Reader is an alternative news and community events source for Manhattan Beach, Hermosa Beach and Redondo Beach. It is distributed free of charge throughout the South Bay area of Los Angeles.
The newspaper was founded in 1970 by former Herald Examiner reporter John Wilson and a group of fellow beach city residents. On March 25, 2020 the paper laid off its entire staff due to the coronavirus. Publisher Kevin Cody said it was "not the first time since Easy Reader's founding by a volunteer staff 50 years ago that the staff has been laid off. And it will not be the last time. The paper will come back, as we all will, only to be overwhelmed by a new, unforeseen challenge. And then to rise again."
This publication is a member of the Association of Alternative Newsmedia (AAN). AAN is a group of newspapers and magazines providing journalism that offers an alternative to the mainstream media in the area.
