The Southington Observer began publication in 1975.
It stopped publishing in March 2020 due to the Covid-19 pandemic. Editor John Goralski wrote: "As a free community newspaper with no subscriptions, revenues dried up quickly as advertisers shuttered their doors against the virus." While the intention was to resume publication, that did not happen.
