Weather Underground

Weather Underground is a USA website covering National News.

Weather Underground is a commercial weather service providing real-time, online weather information. Most of its U.S. weather information comes from the National Weather Service (NWS), a U.S. government agency. It has also developed the world's largest network of personal weather stations (almost 10,000 stations in the US and over 3,000 across the rest of the world) providing users with the most localized weather conditions available. The service includes weather reports for most major cities around the world.

Weather Underground, Inc. was founded in 1995 in Ann Arbor, Michigan as an offshoot of the University of Michigan's Internet weather database. The name is a reference to the 1960s radical leftist student group the Weather Underground which also originated at the University of Michigan.

In July 2012, Weather Underground became part of the Weather Channel Companies, which were owned by NBC Universal until IBM bought all but The Weather Channel TV service in 2016. In 2018, NBC Universal sold the TV channel to Entertainment Studios Inc., a company owned by comedian and producer Byron Allen.

In February 2024, IBM sold The Weather Company to Francisco Parters, a private equity company based in Menlo Park, California.

This website is owned by Francisco Partners.
