Axios

Axios is a USA website covering National News.

Axios is a digital news service launched in early 2017 based on the stated belief that "media is broken - and too often a scam." The site was created by Jim VandeHei, the co-founder and former CEO of Politico, Mike Allen, the founder of its Playbook newsletter, and Roy Schwartz.

The Axios editorial style emphasizes brevity above all in an effort to make its reports easy to digest. In many cases, anything complex or ambiguous is glossed over or ignored in the name of the "Powerpoint mode" of headlines, bold type and bullet points. The result is articles that can seem broken (lacking important details) and a scam (distorting reality by forcing it to fit the format).

Axios Media was started in the summer of 2016 with a $10 million round of financing led from Lerer Hippeau Ventures and other companies including NBC News, Emerson Collective and David and Katherine Bradley, the former owners of Atlantic Media and The Atlantic magazine. In November 2017, the company said it had raised a further $20 million which it would use to increase staff and expand operations.

The company began its expansion into local news media in December 2020 when it bought Charlotte Agenda, now known as Axios Charlotte. On August 8, 2022, Cox Enterprises announced its purchase of Axios Media.

The word Axios means "worthy" in Greek.

This website is owned by Cox Enterprises, Inc.
