Hulu is a subscription video streaming service owned by The Walt Disney Company. It offers movies, TV shows, documentaries and original productions, competing with Amazon Prime, Apple TV, Netflix and others.
The service was launched on March 18, 2008 as a joint venture of NBCUniversal, News Corporation and private equity company Providence Equity Partners. The Walt Disney Company bought a 27% interest in Hulu on April 30, 2009.
In July 2018, Walt Disney bought most of the assets of 21st Century Fox including its 30% interest in Hulu, giving Disney majority ownership of the service. Disney became the sole owner of Hulu in late 2023 when it bought Comcast's ownership interest, which Comcast had acquired from its 2011 acquisition of NBCUniversal.

Disney Takes Full Control of Hulu
-- On May 14, 2019, The Walt Disney Company said it will buy the 33% stake in Hulu owned by Comcast Corporation. The deal will give Disney full control of the streaming service effective immediately. Payment for the complex "put/call" deal may be delayed until 2024.

Hulu is Now Owned by Disney
-- Following shareholder approval in July, 2018 of Walt Disney's purchase of most of the assets of 21st Century Fox, the streaming service Hulu is now majority owned by Disney.
Hulu is owned by Hulu LLC, which was a joint venture of The Walt Disney Company (30% stake), 21st Century Fox (30%), Comcast/NBC Universal (30%) and AT&T Corporation (10%). With the Disney/Fox deal, Disney got the 21st Century Fox share and now owns 60% of Hulu.

Hulu Snares Over One Billion Ad Impressions
-- According to figures released by comScore on July 15, 2011, Hulu generated the highest number of video ad impressions for the month of June at 1,001,736,000.
