Veoh is an online service streaming a variety of video entertainment. The company is a subsidiary of Israeli start-up company Qlipso. Qlipso acquired Veoh after the original owners, led by founder and former CEO Dmitry Shapiro, filed for Chapter 7 bankruptcy in February 2010. Qlipso made the acquisition to add users and revenue to its multi-user content sharing service. In May 2008, the company grabbed headlines when it made Veoh unavailable in most areas outside North America.
Dmitry Shapiro launched Veoh in September 2005. The company raised millions of dollars from venture capital and media investors, including Time Warner, Michael Eisner, Tom Freston, Jonathan Dolgen, Intel and Goldman Sachs. Veoh distributes content from media companies and material generated by its users, although as of April 2020 many streams are unavailable.
