The Discovery Channel was launched by John Hendricks on June 17, 1985. Initially it was operated by a company called Cable Educational Network Inc. On September 18, 2008, Discovery Communications (later Discovery Inc.) began trading as a public company. On April 8, 2022, Discovery merged with WarnerMedia to form a new business called Warner Bros. Discovery.
